Cool freshly expressed milk before adding it to older, stored breast milk. The milk is still safe to use, but some babies refuse to drink it. Heating the milk to scalding point (bubbles around the edges but not boiling) and then quickly cooling it before freezing can deactivate the lipase. If the milk has a sour odor, do not give it to your baby.
